Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when heis weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will beproud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

（主啊！請陶冶我兒子，使他成為一個堅強的人，能夠知道自己什麼時候是軟弱的；使他成為一個勇敢的人，能夠在畏懼的時候認清自己，謀求補救；使他在誠實的失敗之中，能夠自豪而不屈，在獲得成功之際，能夠謙遜而溫和。）

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone shouldbe; a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stoneof knowledge.

Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but underthe stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to standup in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high;a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who willreach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a senseof humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself tooseriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity ofgreatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.
